I normally only work with knits for Floremark but this fabric was just too spectacular to resist. The border is printed on a wonderful champagne colored cotton satin. I only got a few yards of it, but I would love to do more skirts like this with border prints in the future.

Grethe cardigan

I've been dying to be more creative again and design some new garments for Floremark. And I whipped this first style this weekend, it's called Grethe, and is made of super soft charcoal rayon jersey and the yoke is a wonderful black knitted lace fabric. Available in S-M-L.

I made the closures out of bridal loops.

Selina blouse featured here and there

Everyone who loves muted colours has to check this Etsy treasury that the Selina blouse is included in! Just look at that origami top for instance and I am already a fan of French designer Isabelmayo. I just want to tout Etsy's horn for a bit today. There is a level of design sophistication among many sellers that just blows me away on a regular basis.
And the Selina blouse is also included in a recent Storque article about eco friendly shopping (scroll down to see it). Yay! And my organic blouse pops up in this treasury too.

Ilo printed jersey skirt

This is a version of the original Maud skirt, and it's basically an a-line skirt with a drawstring/elastic combo that is super comfortable and very forgiving to wear. I love wearing skirts, but I can't stand when they are tight at the waist. Or they keep rising up when you wear them, so suddenly the waist is under your bust, which is another peeve of mine. Not to mention the twisting, when the back slit ends up in the front! Maybe it is just me who has this issues, but finding skirts that fits is really hard for me. That is why I am huge fan of knit skirts with an elastic waist. I can wear them low slung or high up, depending on my mood or how my body behaves that day.

When I bought the fabric I had intended to center the print, but while it looked great on the dress form, it was a bit overpowering in reality, so after a lot of draping experiments I settled on this asymmetric alignment which is really flattering.

The skirt is lined with a second layer of rayon jersey so the skirts hangs really smoothly. I named this one Ilo, which is Finnish for joy. The print makes me happy and also reminds a bit of those classic over sized Marimekko patterns so I think the name is fitting. The skirt is available in my Etsy store.

Elsa printed 40's style blouse

Well I have done a new design for my Etsy store. Yup you heard me right, I am churning out new things again! And I even did my hair, using the classic pin curl method. Though the curls started to disappear as soon as I left the bathroom - my hair looked much cooler the first five minutes!

So this is Elsa, done in a retro looking flower print rayon/lycra fabric that was a total score. While I love big bold prints, dots and stripes I also have a very sentimental leaning towards small scale flower prints. I think it harks back to my younger days when I spent a lot of time hunting down vintage finds. So this is a tribute to that side of my taste, a rather 40's silhouette for summer with accentuated shoulders and a peplum style bodice. This top is beyond comfortable with generous gathers, just as it should be. Also I did some subtle pearl embroideries details along the neckline.

I am slowly working on adding new designs to my shop, and this is the first one - a sailor striped t-shirt in black and ivory organic cotton jersey. I really want to work more with organically grown cottons since they are much more eco friendly than the regular kind. Plus the quality of the organic knits that I have bought over the years has all been of excellent quality, with only exception that I can think of. And this striped jersey is just wonderful, so soft and comfortable, washes very well and is a little more substantial than regular t-shirt fabric. I named this one Roxy because I was thinking new wave in the early 80's when I made it, and will wear mine with my super skinny "can't really breath" waxed black jeans and Converse type of sneakers.

Isobel striped sailor shirt

This is my take on the classic striped sailor shirt. Yes it's usually done in white with navy stripes, but I wanted to have a more colourful option for spring and use the direction of the stripes in a contrasting way. The sleeves are 7/8 length and the cuffs can be folded up for a slightly different style. The blouse is done in a great cotton french terry. The fabric is brilliant - not too thin, not too thick and holds it's shape beautifully. This top is perfect for spring, and also great way to cheer up your winter blues - it worked for me anyhow, we currently have -15 degrees Celsius outside so spring still feels very far away!

Olga blouse in organic cotton

My resolution for 2010 is simple - I will incorporate more organic fabrics in my collection. First out is the Olga blouse that I have made in a wonderful soft organic jersey. The shape of the blouse is based on a top that I have done several times for myself over the years - I keep returning to it since it is both very comfortable and really flattering.

Kelly cardigan

Most of my designs starts with a very specific idea or a need. And this cardigan is no exeception. I love the classic twin-set look with a crew neck cardigan, but they can look a little plain sometimes so I wanted to make a cardigan with some fun details to make it more distinct. The buttons are vintage and the lace trim on the placket is actually lingerie lace.

The cardigan is made of very fine and soft 100% wool rib fabric in navy and it has quickly become one of my wardrobe staples. I named the cardigan Kelly, after Grace and it's available in S-M-L in my Etsy store.

Evenlyn top

Remember this? Well one of those sketches has now materialized into an actual garment. I really enjoyed designing and making this one, it's a fun challenge to translate a drawing into something that works in fabric too. The biggest task was to figure out how to make the tie detachable and after a lot of thinking I settled for a very simple solution- metal snaps.

I put it up in the shop as well and named it Evelyn.

Today I updated my shop with the new Mariner sweater and dress.This time in dark navy. Both designs are made in a high quality 100% cotton interlock fabric that is manufactured locally here in Sweden. The dress is super comfortable and has side pockets for added practicality. The Mariner dress and sweater are available in S-M-L and as usual I offer petite and tall alterations for those who needs that.

Two of my cardigans has recently gotten a little recognition which of course is super exciting. In the current issue of indie fashion fanzine Viva La Moda the Celia cardigan is on page 18 and the Graydon cardigan was the object of a style swap in the blog Paper 'n' Stitch about a week ago.

Maud skirt with vintage print

In my humble opinion Scandinavia has some of the best textile designers in the world. One of those are Maud Fredin Fredholm who was mostly active during the 1950's to the 1970's. The Maud skirt is made of an original fabric that comes straight from her warehouse. The standout print was designed and produced here in Sweden in the the 60's and 70's. And unlike many other knit fabrics from that era this one is made almost entirely out of cotton (the mix is 85% cotton/15%polyester). The small amount of synthetic helps the skirt to keep it's shape during wear.

The waist is elastic and you can regulate the size with the ties. You can wear the skirt high at the waist or low slung on the hips. The skirt also has side pockets and the shape is gently flared.

This fabric is completely unique and I only have a very small run of it.

Edith charcoal jersey skirt

The Edith skirt is loosely inspired by the fashion of the 1910's. A decade that I think is somewhat overlooked, which is a pity since there were some lovely clothes being made during those years. The designs were much more loose fitting and forgiving than during the Victorian times, while still remaining many of the lovely details from earliest 20th century fashion.

The use of button details on Edith, and also the layered silhouette of the skirt, with a discreet petticoat showing through are two things that are reminiscent of that decade.

Details about Edith:
It has an outer layer of a wonderful midweight marled charcoal grey rayon/lycra crepe jersey and is lined with soft stretch tulle. The skirt has side pockets and the shape is gently flared. The placket is made with faux fastening and the buttons are vintage with beautiful top stitching details. The Edith skirt is semi fitted and has a smooth elastic waist for maximum comfort.

Zero degrees from Project Runway

As some of you might know I am a massive fan of Project Runway. I store all seasons of the US version on my hard drive and I also collect other versions from around the world (my faves these days are actually Australia's and Canada's PR versions). So yesterday I was thrilled beyond belief when I found out that my sailor sweater was featured on the same Etsy finds page as PR season 3 contestant Alison Kelly who now has her own Etsy shop. This is definitely the highlight of my design career :)

All Floremark's garments are designed and made by me, Johanna Lundström with a lot of attention to fit, craftsmanship and style. Graydon wool sweater jacket

This stylish and comfortable jacket will work well for both indoor and outdoor purposes. It's made in medium weight high quality 100% wool jersey and will look equally great with a pretty dress or casual jeans. The buttoned strap is completely removable and the closure is also held together by a hidden metal snap. The faux leather buttons are vintage.

I have only a small amount of this fabric so the wool Graydon only comes in a limited edition. Therefore the only size I am currently able to offer is a S/M for busts 34-36 inches (84-91 cm).

Celia wool cardigan

This fitted cardigan is made of very fine and soft 100% wool rib fabric in dark blue (navy). The ties can be worn in many different ways and I'm sure you will find the pockets useful too. Celia will look great with both skirts and trousers and if you just use the ties and leave the cardigan unbuttoned you will have a classy style, with a 50's nod, to wear over your dresses.

Leslie corduroy cardigan

This is an updated take on the 60's mod classic - the suede cardigan. The front is made of soft black mid wale corduroy and the back and sleeves are made of thick high quality black cotton/lycra rib. The closure are retro style football buttons, but instead of leather ones I have used the plastic version since they will keep looking great wash after wash.

The pockets have room for keys, coins, lipgloss and other trinkets that you might want to carry around. The shape is semi-fitted and since it's ribbed in the back it will accommodate a large variety of body types.
